From the five star hotels and restaurants to the simple bakso (meat ball soup) vendor, from the french fries and pop corn at the cinema or the petite four and snacks at school canteen, you experience a small part of the hospitality industry and we prepare it human recourses at SMKN 8 Makassar for full time course and also part time courses.

From here you will be guided to a complete and detailed vocational education plan, set up and prepared by the International Hospitality School Career Center Makassar, for the State Vocational School – SMKN 8 Makassar. The Modules are prepared based on the Indonesian Standard of Work Competence's and adopted to the National Curriculum Plan since the 1994 Curriculum and re-engineered up to the latest National Curriculum 2004. Working in the team are all instructors of SMKN 8 Makassar, professionals from the hotel and restaurant industry in Makassar and graduated overseas industrial students. With the support of Mr. Ir. Gator Hari Prijowirjanto and Mr. Pakpahan former Director of Vocational Education at the Ministry of National Education and Mr. Prof. DR. Ing Wardiman former Minister of Education and Culture, SMKN 8 Makassar re-engineered her local curriculum plan and had a tried out in 1996.

SMKN 8 Makassar is the first Indonesian Vocational School using the cyber. In 1995 the web side was launched and on May 14 2003, Mr. Ir. Gatot Hari Prijowirjanto officially launched the video conference between Makassar and London; midnight in Makassar and afternoon London. It is the only vocational education institution that upload regularly its activities on its web side which is also a basic need to communicate with her students in Singapore and Malaysia where this institution placed her students for their overseas industrial attachment training since 1996 and in 2000 discovered by Mr. Phillip Krenzer – the General Manager of the Savoy Hotel in London,United Kingdom who invite Makassar to placed her students for Industrial Attachment Training for 1 year, and since than cooperation with the hotel industry in the United Kingdom – City Inn Hotels, The Hilton Group UK, Souffle Restaurant in Kent, Sofitel St James Hotel, the Rules Restaurant the oldest restaurant in London, is widely open for Makassar students..When Mrs. Dra. Hadjar Hafied – former school principal of SMKKN Ujung Pandang (now SMKN 8 Makassar) gave the fiat to start the overseas industrial attachment training as a part of the study program for SMKKN Ujung Pandang students, the internet, which at that time was a luxurious to be installed at the School Council Office, where parents are able to communicate with the students in Singapore using the web video chatting, it was the giant step that this institution made to guide her students up to the international standard requirement. To assist the students during their overseas industrial attachment training, training material were uploaded on the web. In 2002 Long Distance Learning were introduce, students in London and Kent were sharing their experiences with students in Makassar and Palu using the internet technology. Returned overseas industrial attachment training students gave a great contribution to the set up of the Culinary Art and Pastry web side. Mr. Munir, Ervan Syamsul Bachri and Mr. Hernuddin collect pictures and graphics to illustrate the London Cookbook and the London Pastry Book.

The London Cookbook and the London Pastry Book is prepared for SMKN 8 Makassar students and joining vocational education institution in Indonesia, that joined the IHS Career Center Makassar for international work experience and international industrial attachment training placement, also be use by new comers in culinary art and as cooking and pastry crafts guidebook. From the basic cooking techniques to the hotel and restaurant minimum requirement for the position of Chef de Partie – which is equivalent to the Indonesian Work Qualification Standard Level 4 or when using the British National Vocational Qualification Level 3 and Level 4. International Accreditation for these is under pr progress in co-operation with the Tourism Hospitality Qualification - a Profession Certification Board and the National Standard Certification Board; Badan Nasional Sertifikasi Profesi.

The infra structure for this web side is provided by Jardiknas - National Education Network and Internux.

As requested by Mr Gatot, complete learning material including video streaming will be available from this side and most of the content is in English to prepare students to be familiar to the "hospitality language", however for culinary art its has been prepared in two languages, Bahasa Indonesia and English.and the basic french terms are still used.

Assessment on line will be also available to give the students to do a self assessment test before they will be assessed by international recognised assessors,
